Year 2012

Thank you for:

Lal Quila
1. The travel: 14 places/cities in 8 months. This is what I wanted to do when I quit my job. And gradually, I realized that this is what I want to do for as long as I can. Little did I know when I sat at the beach in Sapahale, what was in store for me. The Delhi Trip that happened with my friends was one of the best holidays. I got to be with VM and experience K’s completely changed persona and Lisa’s really fun side! I also got sick on that trip which served as a good lesson for my Pakistan trip. Pakistan was definitely life changing in several ways.

2. all the learning: After some time spent reflecting on my failure of starting the school, I realized I need to work on myself first. Despite feeling disappointed, I realized that this is what I want to do- be a free bird. I learnt I need to take some risks and push myself. I also learnt that I don’t speak realistically about myself and think of myself as humble.

3. Mum’s health: After ALL the struggle which seemed like it would never end, we finally saw the day when we left the OPD smiling. We were what we were longing to be.

4. The projects: As soon as I decided to do projects independently, I was swamped with work. It felt good to be busy after long.

Strawberry Cheese Cake: Guess who ate it :p
5. The baking and gardening: Although I quit my job thinking I would write and paint more- I found two more activities that make me immensely happy- gardening and cooking. When I smelt fresh bread baking at Carrefour, I wanted to bake my own bread. I wanted to make my own desserts- and after successful whole wheat, cashew, wheat-oat cookies I made my first cheesecake ever. I ate most of it too however it was perfect. I did try my hand at khichdi several times but did not succeed much at it. The Ayurvedic Cooking Course showed me a completely new way to be healthy using food and following nature’s cycle- something that I have successfully incorporated in my life.

6. Movies: I thoroughly enjoyed Barfi, Kahani and most of all English Vinglish. It made a huge impression on me. I absolutely loved watching NY on TV and missed my short time there. I think I want to go to the States for a long holiday.

7. The distance: I decided to keep a distance from people who were sort of getting under my skin. I have stopped reading emails from people I don’t respect- in line with my realization that I need to stop listening to people who do not matter. I have also become so much more professional in the recent past- after all the learning from people I have been choosing to hang out with. The distance is doing me good.

8. Friends: I met several new people this year and also reconnected with my friends. Just recently I saw friends after about 6 years. It was wonderful.
Looking Forward: At Matheran, a few days ago.

I look forward to this New Year with gratitude, hope and optimism.
